Best Discord Text Styles: Bold, Italic, Script, Bubble & More

A quick tour of the most popular font styles you can use in Discord—and how to get them.

Bold & italic (Unicode)

Discord’s built-in markdown uses **bold** and *italic*, but that only works in messages. Unicode bold and italic use different character sets, so they work in usernames, channel names, and roles too. They look like real bold/italic and don’t require any special syntax.

Script & cursive

Script and cursive styles give an elegant, handwritten look. Great for server announcements, welcome messages, or aesthetic nicknames. They’re based on Unicode mathematical or script blocks and display consistently across platforms.

Small caps

Small caps look like small uppercase letters. They’re clean and professional—ideal for rules, titles, or when you want emphasis without going full bold. Many Discord font generators offer a “small caps” or “small capital” style.

Bubble & rounded

Bubble and rounded fonts are fun and casual. The characters look rounded or “bubbly,” perfect for friendly servers, gaming communities, or creative channels. They’re easy to read and add personality without being overwhelming.

Upside down & zalgo

Upside-down text uses flipped Unicode characters—great for jokes and memes. Zalgo text uses combining marks to create “glitchy” or corrupted-looking text. Both are popular in Discord culture; use them in moderation for readability. You can generate them with our text utilities (reverse, zalgo) or in the main font generator.
